I am an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at Queens
College of The City University of New York. I am also a member of
the faculty of the Doctoral Program in Computer Science at the Graduate
School and University Center of The City University of New York.
My research is at the
intersection of several areas of computer science: assistive technology
for people with disabilities, natural language processing, and virtual
human modeling and animation. You can find additional information
about my background and experience on my Curriculum
Vitae page.
Natural Language Processing is a sub-field of computer science interested in the design of computer software that can process human languages. Specifically, I study the design of machine translation systems: programs that can translate information from one language to another automatically. For the past several years, I’ve been designing software which can translate English text into American Sign Language (ASL). This software can make computers (and other electronic information and services) more accessible to the significant number of deaf Americans who have difficulty reading English text. To learn more about my work, please see the Research section of this site. There are also sign language and assistive technology resources available on my Interests page. Information about my courses is available on my Teaching page, and you can find out my current office hours on my Contact Information page. |
